Longines is seriously old school.  They were founded in 1832, in Saint-Imier Switzerland, and have the oldest registered logo of all watchmakers.  They have produced some of the finest luxury watches for an impressively long time.  They are definitely some of the best men's watches, and I had to make a list specifically for the best men's Longines watches.

So lets go ahead and get right into it!

The Best Men's Longines Watch for Under 500 Dollars

Presence Collection

Ok, I cheated a little on this one, it's not the first time, and will probably not be the last time.  The Longines Presence is actually a model they do not carry on the Longines website anymore.  It has been discontinued.  But it was the only way I was going to get a Longines in the under 500 dollar price point.  And I thought that was important.

The Longines Presence has a 33mm gold tone, stainless steel case.  It has a small crown at the 3 o'clock position, and also sports a sapphire lens.  The dial face is gold, and the hours are marked by dashes.  The hour and minute hands are black and the second hand is gold.  The watch face also has a date window at the 3 o'clock position.  The band is a leather band with a buckle style clasp.

The watch is powered by a ETA, quartz movement.  The quartz doesn't make me particularly happy, but it is the price you pay for a sub 500 dollar watch.

The Longines Presence can be found for right around 500 dollars.  Amazon sells the watch for about 490 dollars, not leaving much space under the 500 dollar mark, but it is.

Conquest Collection

The Conquest series watch is a very classic looking watch, reminding me of a Rolex Datejust.  It has a matted finish, and great water resistance.

The case is large, 40mm stainless steel, with the crown located at the 3 o'clock position, and with crown guards around the area.  It has a sapphire lens, and a screw on back.  The face is white with Arabic hour markers at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, and with index markers for the other hourly positions.  It has a date window at the 3 o'clock position as well, and the hour, minute and second hands are all chromed steel.  The band is a three link style, stainless steel version, with a triple fold safety clasp to round out the look and function of the watch.

The movement is quartz.  A model L115.  It is a modified, 7 jewel, ETA 955.112, reminding all of us that the Longines brand is owned by Swatch.

I see the watch for sale on the web for around 700 dollars, generally.  I believe it to be a very well made watch, and one that should withstand a fairly active lifestyle, and fit in most situations.  It is a very well rounded watch and shows the years of experience Longines has in watchmaking.  It's a nice buy in my mind.

It is no surprise to me to see this watch on this list.  It is totally a watch I would wear.  I love this style.  It reminds me a lot of my Shinola.  I couldn't help myself when I stumbled across it.

This Master Collection watch has a 38.5mm Stainless steel case, with the crown at the 3 o'clock position.  It has a narrow bezel, giving the face the look of being bigger without adding a lot of bulk to your wrist.  The front and back have sapphire lenses.  The dial face is white with black Arabic numerals marking the hours.  There is a date window at the 6 o'clock position.  The hands are blued steel, and the band is a three link, stainless steel style, with a triple fold safety clasp.

The movement in the Longines is a L619/L888 Automatic movement.  It has 21 Jewels, and runs at 28,800 bph. It has a 42 hour power reserve.  It is a modified ETA 2892-A2.  But, I have also read there is no modification at all, it is an off the shelf ETA.

I have found this watch all over the internet for around 1500 dollars.  Personally, I think I would have possibly bought this instead of my Shinola, if I would have known it was out there.  And if I had the spare 800 dollars.  The Shinola is only about 700 dollars.

This Master Collection watch has made its presence felt on one of my previous lists.  It was on the 5 best men's watches under 5000 dollars.  It is a nice watch.  A lot like the Master Collection watch already on this list, but with a bit of high end materials added to it to increase the value of the watch dramatically.

The case of this watch is 38.5mm 18ct pink gold.  It has a narrow bezel as well, to give the face a larger appearance without adding unneeded bulk to the watch.  There is a crown at the 3 o'clock position, which is also pink gold.  There is a sapphire lens on both the front and back of the watch.  The dial face is silver, with diamond indexes for the hour markers.  There is a total of 0.55ct of Wesselton diamonds.  The hands of the watch are also pink gold, and the band is alligator leather, with a buckle style clasp.

The movement in the Longines is a L619/L888 Automatic movement.  It has 21 Jewels, and runs at 28,800 bph. It has a 42 hour power reserve.  It is a modified ETA 2892-A2.  This is the same as the watch above.  It is a good movement.  Longines almost exclusively uses ETA movements.

I have found this watch on a few internet retailers for around 4200 dollars.  I think it's a lot of watch for the price.  You are getting high end materials, and you are getting a watch from a highly reputable company.

Another watch I really like the looks of.  I am actually highly impressed by the Longines lines of watches, they are, in all appearances, high quality products.  And this watch is definitely, no exception.

The Heritage Chronograph has a 40mm 18ct. pink gold case, with a crown at the 3 o'clock position.  It is a multi-function crown, eliminating the need for the auxiliary chronograph buttons.  It is also pink gold.  The bezel is narrow, following the general design cues of many of the Longines lines.  It has a sapphire lens on both the front and the back of the watch.  The dial face is white and the hour markers are black Arabic numerals.  There is a date window at the 6 o'clock position.  There is a 30 minute counter at the 3 o'clock position and a small seconds at the 9 o'clock position.  The chronograph uses the central second hand.  The watch has a alligator leather strap with a buckle style clasp.

The movement is a automatic L788.  It is a ETA A08.L11 base, with 52 hours of reserve.  It has 27 jewels and runs at 28.800 bph.

I generally find this watch at online retailers for around 8,800 dollars.  Nicely below the 10,000 dollar price point.  It is a classic looking watch, and one that should be a sound investment for a lifetime of use.

The 5 Best Men's Watches for Under 10,000 Dollars

This post, The 5 best men's watches for under 10,000 dollars will be the last of the best 5 under lists until the end of the year/beginning of next year.  This is the list I would consider the cream of the crop as far as watches are concerned.

While there are watches much more expensive than 10,000 dollars, I will hit upon those watches individually.  There will be no need to group all the 100,000 dollar watches, and quite frankly, how can you bunch a handful of 100 thousand dollar watches and still be able to do them justice.

So, for this list, I am going to try to introduce a few new brands that we have not talked about yet, in order to familiarize you with more options.  So, even if you do not find the exact watch you might want on these lists, maybe you have found a brand that interests you.  That is my hope, as much as anything.  Considering, many watch choices can be summed up to personal prefrence.

The 5 Best Men's Watches for Under 10,000 Dollars

Rolex

Rolex was founded in London, England, in 1905 under the name, Wilsdorf and Davis.  The trademarked the name Rolex, in 1909, and set up offices in Switzerland.  Then, quickly moved their headquarters to Switzerland in 1919.  The company has made some of the best watches in the world for over 100 years.

Classic is the best word I can come up with for the Datejust.  It is a classic Rolex watch, minus all the gold and bling.  Its 40mm stainless steel case has smooth lines, with the crown at the 3 o'clock position.  The dial face is white with gold inlaid hour markers, and silver polished hands, and a date window.  Along with the trademark crown at the 12 o'clock position.  The Oyster, polished stainless steel 3 link band with the oyster clasp.

The Datejust II features include a magnified cyclopes lens to magnify the date window, HH, MM, and second hands.  Gold Inlaid hour markers, and the Rolex crown... Ok, that is not a feature, but carries weight.

The Rolex 3136 calibre, self winding mechanical movement is what powers this Rolex.  The movement features center hour, minute and second hands along with date wheel.  

The Datejust collection of watches are solid luxury watches that, while expensive, are not even in the same stratosphere as some watches.  It's a Rolex, it has a water resistance of 100M and it has a very tough movement.  It is a great watch, and you should expect to get a great watch for the 10,000 dollar watch list.  I have found this watch ranging from 6,500 to about 7,300, so it falls well under the 10,000 price limit. 

Panerai

Radiomir 8 Day Titanio

Officine Panerai is a Swiss watch manufacturer, that was originally founded in 1860 in Florence, Italy.  Currently their headquarters is still located in Italy, but manufacturers all their watches in Switzerland.

By 1900, Panerai became the official supplier to the Royal Italian Navy, with cases that were manufactured by Rolex, and Movements supplied by Cortebert.  They also produced wrist worn diving instruments, along with watches for the Italian Marina Militare between 1938 and 1993, but the company ceased this production due to cost and the fact that they no longer met naval specifications.

After that, they moved to launch products to the civilian market.  In 1995 Sylvester Stallone bought a Panerai Luminor and wore it during the shooting of Daylight.  The brand quickly gained popularity, and caught the attention of Richemont, which aquired Officine Panerai in 1997, and rebranded Panerai as a luxury brand.

The Radiomir looks old, but in a good way.  For some reason it looks like a watch that was originally made in the 50's or 60's and has never changed.  That's not true, but I love the look.  It has the mid-century mod feel.  The watch has a large, 45mm square titanium case, with a sapphire screw down back, and its crown located at the 3 o'clock position.  The dark brown dial face has dashes for the hour markers, all except the 12 and 6, those positions are occupied by actual numbers.  The dial also has a date window at the 3 o'clock position and a small second at the 9 o'clock position.  The hands are white, and the alligator band is brown as well, with a buckle style clasp.

The Panerai features Sapphire lenses on the front and back, along with titanium construction.  It also includes a date window, and a power reserve meter located on the back of the watch.  Luminous hands and hour markers, and a quick second reset feature for easy syncing.

The Panerai P.2002 calibre is a manual wind, mechanical movement that has an 8 day power reserve.  The movement has center hour and minute hand, a small second hand, and a date wheel.  It also includes a power reserve indicator, and the ability to quickly zero the second hand for easy watch syncing.  The movement is a 21 Jewel, 28,800 BPH movement, with anti shock and has been in production since 2002.

I really like this watch.  I know I say that a lot, because I really do like the watches, but this watch is one of my favorites I have come across so far.  I love the mid century mod look and love the manual wind movement with the 8 day power reserve.  It looks like a great watch to me, and you will pay for it.  I have found it for just a hair under the 10,000 price point, so do not expect to find this one cheap.  There are others in the series that you might be able to find a little cheaper though, you will just have to look around.  Amazon has a lot of Panerai watches though, so it is easy to look.

Breitling

Breitling is a privately owned Swiss luxury watch maker that was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland in 1884.  Breitling designs, engineers, manufactures and distributes chronometer watches, know for being precision made and used often by aviators.

Breitling also makes several of their own movements, but from time to time, will use ETA or Valjoux movements instead.  The Chronograph Unitime uses an in-house movement.

I did not want to limit the Breitling to one single model.  There are a few watches in this collection that all look very similar, with the only changes being the band, the face color and the case itself.  With that being said, the watch has a large, 46mm case that comes in either stainless steel or 18k red gold.  It has a crown at the 3 o'clock position and the auxiliary, chronograph buttons at the 2 and 4 o'clock positions.  The screw in back is stainless steel as well.  The face of this watch is busy.  And that may be putting it lightly.  There are two outer rings on the face, listing major cities in different time zones, the next ring in, is a 24 hour disk that adjusts with the city disks for easy time change.  The next ring in is the standard clock with large dash marks on the hour and smaller ones on the minute, along with the 3 chrono dials and the picture of the Earth in the middle... Well, it's a busy face.  The band is also something that comes in different material, depending on which model you choose.  Stainless steel, Leather, or canvas are available.

The Transocean Unitime has a few features on it.  It includes the HH, MM, and second center hands, along with the chronograph dials, 1/4th second, 30 minute, and 12 hours.  Along with that it has an easy time zone change.  with a simple turn of the crown you can change your time zone accordingly to the outer rings.  Sapphire lens on the front and a 100M water resistance, make this watch pretty well packed with features

The Breitling B05 Calibre movement is a self winding, mechanical, world time, chronograph movement.  It has 56 Jewels, and a 70 hour power reserve. The chronograph includes 1/4 second, 30 minute and 12 hour dials, and the movement runs at 28,800 vph.

While the watch may take a bit of getting used to with all the information on the dial face, and the time zone setting features, I do think that it is a great watch, especially for those of us who find themselves traveling through and to different time zones for work or fun, on a regular basis.  The Breitling watches are quality built and they are a old company.  Generally I see the Transocean Unitime watches for around 6500 dollars, so it too will fall well under the 10,000 dollar price range of this list. 

IWC

Portugieser Hand Wound 8 day

IWC (International Watch Company) was founded in 1868 by an American engineer and watchmaker named, Florentine Ariosto Jones, who had been a director for E. Howard & Co., the leader in American watch making.  Jones started his company in Switzerland, hoping to meld American technological advances with the precision craftsmanship of the Swiss watch makers.

Initially, he received some push back at the idea of opening a factory in Switzerland, being that most of the watch makers at the time were working out of their homes, and they were concerned about their own careers by the idea of mass producing watches near their homes.

In 1880 the company was taken over by the Rauschenbach family, and stayed in their possession for four generations, until 1905.  The Portugieser Hand Wound 8 day is a perfect example of the longevity and quality of the IWC.

The IWC Portugieser has a very vintage look to it.  The 43mm Stainless steel case has a very clean look to it, with the crown at the 3 o'clock position, and a sapphire lens, see through, screw down back panel.  The silver plated dial face has the numeral hour markers, and a date window at the 3 o'clock position, and a small second dial at the 6 o'clock positions.  The black alligator band has a tri-fold clasp, that is also stainless steel.

The Portugieser has a 8 day power reserve, and reserve gauge on the back.  It also has a date window, along with the small second dial.  Sapphire lenses on the front and the back along with the alligator band round out the features for this watch.

The IWC 59215 is a manual wind mechanical watch that has a power reserve of 8 days.  Yup, 8 days.  The Movement is a 30 Jewel, Second hacking movement that runs at 28,800 VPH.  It also includes a power reserve gauge on the back of the movement, see through the back cover.

Personally, I like the vintage look of the IWC.  I like the 8 day power reserve, and I like the history this company has.  It is an expensive watch.  I am finding it for around 9500-9800 dollars, so it will stretch your budget if you choose this one, but I feel like it is a great watch.

Cartier

Ballon Bleu de Cartier Chronograph

Cartier Is a world renowned Jeweler and watch maker that was founded in Paris, France in 1847 by Lous-Fracois Cartier, and remained under family control until 1964.  It was in 1904 that they produced their first wrist watch for the Brazilian aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont, when he complained about the impracticality of using pocket watches while flying.

In 1907, Cartier signed contract with Edmond Jaeger to exclusively supply the movements for Cartier watches, during a time when Cartier was becoming one of the most successful watch companies in the world.

In the early 1920's Cartier formed a company with Edward Jaeger to produce movements soley for Cartier, called the Eauropean watch and clock company, but Cartier continued to use movements from many different watchmakers.

In the late 1990's Cartier realized they needed in house movements in order to maintain their prestige, and set to work on creating wholly Cartier designed and built movements with as few outside parts as possible.  They achieved this and today make most of their watches movements, in house.

The Cartier Ballon Blue Chronograph is a pretty stylish looking watch, the 44mm case is big, but not over large, with a matte polished stainless steel finish, and the crown guard, it has a bit of a different look thank lots of watches we look at here on The Best Men's Watches for Under...  The aforementioned crown is located at the 3 o'clock position, and as sleek, profile following auxiliary buttons for the chronograph functions, and sapphire lenses on both the face and back.  The dial face itself is a dark gray, and uses roman numerals for the hour markers.  It has the chronograph at the 3 o'clock and a small second at the 6 o'clock position.  It also has a date window at the 9 o'clock position.  The alligator band uses a stainless steel, buckle style clasp to round out this package.

The Ballon Bleu is a chronograph, mechanical self winding watch with Sapphire lenses on both the front and the back.  It has Small seconds and a date window, and a crown guard.  The crown itself has an inlaid synthetic spinel cabochon, and, the alligator band.

The movement for the Cartier is a Cartier 8101.  It wad designed and produced in tandem with Jaeger-LeCoultre.  It is an automatic movement with 30 jewels, and runs at 28,800 vph.  It also has about a 42 hour power reserve.

I was leery about putting a Cartier watch on my list.  Before I started researching them, I had assumed they were high end designer watches that just were Frankensteined from a bunch of other watch companies.  While they are not necessarily a completely in house watch company, they do a lot of their own work.  And they have been making watches for a very long time.  It was almost required for me to include them after I gave them a chance.  This watch should be available for around 9,000 dollars, and is a nice watch for the price.

The best men's watches under 10000 dollars was probably the funnest review I have written so far.  These watches are really nice.  They are beyond nice.  When I started the best men's watches under, I have to say, I assumed I would start getting to these more expensive watches and just not see any value in them.  It's just not true.  These watches are so far and beyond a 500 dollar watch, it cannot even be quantified.

Oris is a company I often forget about, I have no good reason for that either.  I rank them in the same category as companies like Hamilton or Shinola, but for some reason, I just never look at them.

Today I am giving Oris a spot with the Artelier Hand Wind, Small Second.  The Artelier has a 40mm stainless steel case with the crown at the 3 o'clock position and a sapphire lens on both the front and the back of the watch.  The silver dial has Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock position and dashes at the other hours, it also has small Arabic numerals for the 5 minute markers, and a small seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position.

The Oris Artelier uses a Oris 396 Movement, which uses a ETA 7001 for its base.  This means it is a modified ETA 7001.  The movement is a 17 jewel, manual winding model, with a running speed of 21,600 bph.  It also has a 42 hour power reserve.

I like the look of the Oris.  There are a couple of watches in this price range that also use the same ETA 7001 so, the final decision came down to looks and ease of getting the watch.  The Oris can be found on Amazon for around 1845 dollars, and looks like a good buy at that price.

Omega has made my lists again.  This is not a real surprise, considering this watch was on my 5 best men's watches for under 5000 dollars, and the best men's chronograph watches for under... part 2.  And considering that it is an Omega, you had to expect it to be on this list.

I love this watch.  I love the fact that it is a manual wind chronograph.  That is a whole lot of fancy in one little package.  This watch may be my most very favorite on this list.  At 39.7mm, the stainless steel case is not over large,  It has the crown at the 3 o'clock position and the chronograph function buttons at the 2 and 4 o'clock positions.  The Moon watch has a tachymeter bezel and a sapphire lens on the front.  The back is etched with the classic Omega seahorse.  The black face is marked with dashes at the hour markers.  Polished hour, minute and second hands are imbued with luminous material.  The watch has 3 sub dials for the chronograph.

The Omega 1861 Movement, which, unfortunately is not actually an in-house movement.  It is a Lemania base.  Regardless, this is a awesome watch.  I found it cheapest on Amazon for around 3700 dollars, and I think it is well worth that.  Great watch.  I cannot say that enough.

The Breitling watches are not for the faint of heart.  They tend to offer a whole lot of information on their faces, and the Navitimer Cosmonaute is no exception.  This watch has a whole lot going on, and it may not be for everyone.  But for a 7,000 dollar watch, I assume most people are either looking for a watch that offers a lot or is encrusted with diamonds.  I tend to favor function over flare, which is why I am putting a Breitling on this list, in this spot.

The Navitimer is a 43mm stainless steel and red gold cased watch with the crown at the 3 o'clock position and the chronograph buttons at the standard 2 & 4 o'clock positions.  The lens is sapphire and it has a functional, bi-directional slide rule.  The face of the watch is blue and has Arabic numerals for minutes, hours and the 24 hour clock.  The three chronograph sub dials are located at the 4, 6 and 8 o'clock positions and the date window is located at the 4:30 position.  The steel band has a folding style clasp.

The Breitling 02 movement is the power behind this watch, It has 39 jewels and runs at 28,800 bph.  It has a hearty 70 hour power reserve, and is quite a piece of machinery, considering it is a chronograph, and it has a date function as well.

This watch is an extreme time piece, it is all the things above, as well as a tribute to Scott Carpenter, who wore the watch as he orbited the Earth in the Aurora 7 capsule.

I added the under 8000 dollar category, for two reasons; 1) This watch was cool enough to warrant it, and 2.)Because I could not find a 20,000 dollar watch I liked enough to go that high on the price scale.  Panerai has some watches that near that mark, but, reality is, they are not much different than the Radiomir I have already added to this list.

Seriously cool, it is one of my favorite watches on any of my lists, the Panerai Radiomir has also made an appearance on the 5 best mens watches under 10,000 dollars.  This one along with the IWC 8 day were the two manual wind watches on that list, and this one got the thumbs up, mostly because of its looks, it is unique, in a good way and the IWC is very classic looking.

The Radiomir 8 day Titanio has a 45mm Titanium case with the crown at the 3 o'clock position.  It has sapphire on the front and back, and it has a brown dial with Arabic numerals at the top and bottom of the watch (the 12 & 6).  It has a small seconds at the 9 o'clock and a date window at the 3 o'clock position.  The watch also sports an alligator band with a buckle style clasp.

The Panerai manual wind P.2002/9 movment is a 23 jewel, in house movement.  It runs at 28,800 bph and it has, of course, an 8 day power reserve.

I love this watch, I find it priced anywhere from 9,000 to about 12,000.  I do know that Amazon sells it for 9675 dollars.

.Tissot is not a company I have given much love to, on the best men's watches under blog.  Mostly that's because I consider them a fashion watch company.  No other reason than that.  And they really are not much different than companies like Hamilton or Victorinox.  They are Swiss made watches.

Tissot actually was founded in 1853, in Le Locle Switzerland, by Charles Tissot, and his son, also named Charles.  Tissot introduced the first mass produced pocket watch that was also the first pocket watch that displayed two time zones.  They were also the first  company to make watches out of plastic, stone, and wood.  Currently the company is owned by Swatch, which if you know watches at all, its really not a big surprise.  Swatch owns a lot of the watch companies out there.

The Couturier is big.  It has a 45mm stainless steel case with the crown at the 3 o'clock position.  It is a low profile crown, and the two chronograph buttons are also low profile, and located ath the 2 & 4 o'clock positions.  The back is stainless steel and screw down, with a small see through window.  The lens is sapphire.  The dial is silver, with a tachymeter outer rind, and stainless steel dash marks for the hours.  The chronograph sub dials are located at the 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions, with a date window at the 3 o'clock positions.  The Band is wide as well, it is a 5 link style stainless steel band with a 4 fold safety clasp.

The Movement is an automatic ETA C01.211.  It is a 15 jewel, chronograph movement with 45 hour power reserve.  It has a small seconds, with a large center sweep chronograph seconds hand.  It also has a hour chronograph and minute.

The watch is really nice to me.  It's really big and that is the only thing that makes me classify this as a fashion watch.  Otherwise it's a good looking watch and it would have made my 5 best men's watches under 1000 dollars list.

I have seen this watch for around 795 dollars.  But I have seen it for as much as 975 dollars, so do your shopping, it will be worth it.

Issey Miyake, well, this is a true fashion company.  Of course, they do not only make watches, not even close, but they do make some seriously funky watches, and I could not make a fashion watch list without including at least one Issey Miyake watch.

The really cool part about Issey Miyake watches, at least to me, is they are made by Seiko, Issey Miyake has designers come up with some new design and it is given ti Seiko to produce them for Miyake.

The TO (Tokujin Yoshioka, designer) has a stainless steel case that is 45.3mm  It has a sapphire lens, and a see through back with sapphire lense.  The outer diameter has scribe lines at the hour marks, the second diameter in is the hour dial, and spins, the inner diameter is the minute dial and spins as well.  The band is stainless steel, with a 4 fold safety clasp.

The automatic movement can be hand wound.  It has 23 Jewels.  It is a Seiko brand, but I am unsure what the calibre it is.

The SILAS001 usually can be found for around 1650 dollars.  Amazon might be the best place for you to find one if you are interested.  It is a really cool looking watch, one of the most unique watches I have ever seen.

Bell & Ross

Bell & Ross has made it on my lists before.  I guess that says something, because I don't regularly add fashion watches to my normal men's watches lists.  This watch made the 5 best men's watches under 500 dollars.  And for good reason.  It's a really nice watch.

It is a 42mm square case, made of ceramic and PVD, it is black with a crown at the 3 o'clock position, and the chronograph buttons at the 2 &4 o'clock positions.  It has a sapphire lens.  The dial face is black with off white markings,  the hours are displayed as dashes, except for the 6 and 12 o'clock hours, which use actual Arabic numerals.  The sub dials are at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions.  The light brown calfskin band has a buckle style clasp.

The watch movement is a Bell & Ross BR-Cal.301, which is basically a slightly modified ETA2894-2, which is a mechanical, automatic chronograph movement, with 37 jewels, that runs at 28,800 vph, and has a 42 power reserve.  A very nice movement, that will give you a very smooth second hand.

The watch is on the internet for under 4000 dollars.  Amazon sells it for around 3900 dollars.  It would make a really unique addition to anyone's collection.  Not to mention, I believe it is one of the highest quality fashion watches I have seen.

Cartier

Yup, I believe Cartier is a fashion watch.  It isn't even really a question.  The thing is, I had to relent a little about Cartier, because they make quality watches.  They have put a lot of time and development into their watch division.

This watch was on my 5 best men's watches under 10,000 dollar list.  This watch is impressive.  It has a 44mm stainless steel case, with a crown at the 3 o'cloc position that has a guard around it.  The chronograph buttons are at the 2 & 4 positions. It has a sapphire lens.  The black dial uses Roman numerals for the hour markings, it has chronograph sub dials at the 3 o'clock position and the 6 o'clock position, as well as a date window at the 9 o'clock position.  The band is alligator and has a buckle style clasp.

The movement for the Cartier is a Cartier 8101.  It wad designed and produced in tandem with Jaeger-LeCoultre.  It is an automatic movement with 30 jewels, and runs at 28,800 vph.  It also has about a 42 hour power reserve.

This Cartier can be purchased for around 8000 dollars on Amazon.  You get a whole lot of watches for well under 10,000 dollars, not to mention, a whole lot of name.  It is a pretty good looking watche and has a very unique look to it.

Buame and Mercier has made its way onto my lists before.  They make really nice watches.  It's really hard to ignore them.  The Capeland is another busy watch, but very high quality.

The 43mm stainless steel case is where it starts.  It is covered by sapphire lens on both the front and back of the watch.  It has a crown at the 3 o'clock position and the chronograph function buttons at the 2 & 4 o'clock positions.  The silver faced Capeland has a tachymeter and telemeter outer ring, with Arabic numerals for the hour marks as an inner ring.  The chronograph sub dials are at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions.  The watch also has a date window at the 4:30 position.  The hands are polished silver, with indiglo imbued within them.  The alligator leather strap has a buckle style clasp with contrasting white stitching.

The Buame & Mercier movement is a Valjoux 7750.  The movement sports 27 jewels, and runs at 28,800 vph.  The 7750 line of movements is one of the most popular mechanical chronograph movements you will find.  It is reliable and very common.  Meaning the Capeland should work well for a long time, but if you have a problem with it, most watch repair folks should be familiar with it.

I have found the Capeland for around 1600 dollars.  Amazon has it for a hair under, at about 1,555, and I think it looks like a whole lot of watch for that price point.

I don't even know what else to say about this watch.  It was on my 5 Best Men's Watches for Under 5000 dollars.  It was on my Best Men's Omega Watches Under...  It was also on my Best Men's Mechanical Hand Wind Watches Under...  And now it 's here, on my best mens chronograph watches for under.. list.
Needless to say, I really like this watch, and it is on my must have list.  Stainless steel, 39.7mm case with the crown at the 3 o'clock position and the chronograph function buttons at the 2 & 4 o'clock positions.  It has a tachymeter bezel and a brown leather band with a buckle style clasp.

The movement is the Omega 1861, which is a modified Lemania.  A very good movement, and one that you should have little issue with.  It is a hand wound mechanical.

Generally I can find this watch for around 3700 dollars.  I think this is a wonderful watch for that price, and I might even buy myself two if I had the spare disposable income.

Breitling has made a few appearances on my lists so far.  This watch has made two appearances now.  Here for the chronograph catagory, and also on the hand wind watches list.  Breitling makes nice watches that look very very busy.  Some people may be put off by the abundance of information on their faces.  Personally, I like the looks.  They look like a tool to me, and often they are a tool.

The Navitimer is a bigger watch, at 43mm.  It is constructed of stainless steel and red gold.  It has a crown at 3 o'clock and the chronograph buttons at the 2 & 4 o'clock positions.  The dial face is blue and it has sub dials at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions.  The watch also comes with a stainless steel band, with a folding style clasp.

The Navitimer movement is a Breitling 02.  It has 39 jewels and a power reserve of 70 hours.  The movement is made in house, and is a quality movement.

I can find the Navitimer for around 7000 dollars all over the web.  Amazon has a few different versions of this watch, for a little more or a little less.  All versions are basically the same though.

Cartier

It took me a little while to warm up to Cartier watches, I was convinced they were over priced fashion watches filled up with cheap Chinese movements and other less than high end materials.

I was completely wrong.  After spending some time studying their products, and their history, I learned that they have considerable research and development in their own movements and designs.

This watch made it on the 5 best men's watches for under 10,000 dollars.  It is a seriously cool watch, with lots of nice features.

The Cartier has a 44mm stainless steel face, with a guarded crown at the 3 o'clock position, and chronograph buttons at the 2 &4 o'clock position.  The black face is stylish with chronograph sub dials at the 3 & 6 o'clock positions.  It also has a black leather band with a buckle style clasp.

The Cartier 8101 movement is made by JLC.  But that does not deter me.  I think this watch is well worth the position on this list.  It is a really nice and stylish watch.  And I have found it for around 8500 dollars.  I like this watch at that price.  Especially if you are looking for a watch that offers you the tools of a chronograph, but steps away from the standard chronograph looks.

Generally, you can find this watch for around 8,500 dollars.  It is a really nice watch at that price point.  I was definitely converted from a Cartier dis-liker to a Cartier liker when I started researching this watch.

These chronograph watches are definitely high end men's watches.  They offer some of the best features available on watches today.  They are made by some of the best and most respectable watch makers in the world.  They are going to offer you a product that should, with very little work, last a lifetime, and beyond in many cases.

The Best Men's Rolex Watches for Under...

The holy grail of watches are the Rolex, to many people.  There is a level of  prestige given to someone with a Rolex on their wrist.  And for good reason.  Rolex has justified their cost in many ways. Of course this watch made my 5 best men's watches for under 5000 dollars list.  I am not a fanboy of Rolex, but I do appreciate longevity and quality and Rolex is the epitome of both.  This company makes remarkably nice watches, and the Rolex weight carries some serious weight.

The 34mm stainless steel case is fairly small, very reminiscent of older watches.  The crown is at the 3 o'clock position,  and the sapphire lens is surrounded by a polished stainless steel bezel.  The silver face has the Arabic numerals at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock locations and the crown is sitting at the 12 o'clock.  The hour, minute and second hands are polished, and the hour and minute hands have a luminous insert.  The stainless steel, 3 link band has a Oyster clasp on it.

The 3130 Rolex movement.  It is a 31 jewel, automatic movement with a 42 hour power reserve.  It has been in production since 2001.

I like this watch quite a bit more than I did when I originally looked at it.  I originally had a anti-Rolex sentiment, but I had it for no good reason, other than some resentment for the fact that I cannot afford one a the moment, I assume.

But This watch seems to run right around 4000 dollars, and I believe it to be a great buy for someone who wants to own a Rolex, or a beginner collector.

Datejust II 41mm

The Datejust is a classic watch.  It has been made by Rolex for over 50 years.  It was the first watch to get the automatic date window, and although the watch has changed in appearance, it is really close to what the originals looked like.

The 41mm stainless steel watch case has its crown at the 3 o'clock position.  The silver face has Arabic numerals marking the 5 minute marks, along with polished dash marks at the hours markers.  The sapphire lens has a magnification eye for the date window on the silver dial face.  The hour, minute and second hands are polished, with inset illumination on the hour and minute hands.  The 3 link, stainless steel bracelet had the Rolex, folding Oyster clasp.

The Datejust II has the Rolex 3136, self winding, perpetual movement.  The 3100 series of movments have been used since the late 1980's and has several iterations.  the 3136 has an power reserve of approximately 35 hours, and has 31 Jewels and includes the Paraflex Shock absorber, and runs at 28,800 vph.  It is a well aged movement, and one you should have very little issue with.

The watch sells for around 6500 dollars.  And looks to be an excellent buy at that price.  You are getting a high quality time piece for well under 10,000 dollars.

I really like the YachtMaster II.  It is a nice looking watch and well featured watch, but I do have one little complaint.  No date window.  But that will be all I say about this watch, because otherwise, I find it to be an exceptional timepiece.

The Yachtmaster boasts a large, 44mm stainless steel case with a anodized blue command bezel that is a fully functional countdown bezel.  Spin it and synchronize it with the countdown hand.  The crown is at the 3 o'clock position and two auxiliary buttons for the countdown features, located at the 2 and 4 o'clock positions.  It has a white face with blue markings to match the blue bezel and also blue hour and minute hands, with a small seconds located at the 6 o'clock position.  It also has two red hands for the countdown mechanism.  The stainless steel band is the commonly used, Rolex Oyster band, with Oyster clasp.

The Rolex 4161 self winding movement, It has 48 jewels and runs at 28,800 vph.  It also has a 720 hour power reserve, and is one of Rolex's most cutting edge movements available.

I really like this watch, maybe because it reminds me of the Omega Planet Ocean series of watches, but maybe just because it appears to be a wonderful timepiece.  I am usually able to find it for around 16,000 dollars, so it falls well under the 20,000 price point.  And should be one considered if you are in the game for a 20,000 dollar men's watch.

The Best Men's Omega Watches for Under...

We are going to cover Omega today, a Swiss watch maker that has been producing fine watches since 1903.  Omega has an impressive story behind it, being official timekeepers for countless events and groups and being on some very famous wrists over the years has given it quite a recognizable name.  They are not only popular, but make some of the finest watches in the world.

Like Ball watches, I will not disguise the fact that I really like Omega watches.  I like to call them the rock stars of the watch world.  They have played prominent rolls in movies, in real life adventures and have adorn the wrists of many a popular individual.  All that, and they have the look.  They look like nice watches.

This watch has been on my lists before.  It made the 5 best men's watches for under 200 dollars.  It is a really nice watch.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra is no exception.  It has a smallish, stainless steel case, measuring 38mm, with a promenent crown at the 3 o'clock position.  The silver dial face is adorned with 5 minute interval Arabic numerals, and stainless steel, polished hour markers.  Its hour, minute and second hands are also polished steel.  The Seamaster has Sapphire crystal lenses with anti reflective treatments on both the face and back of the watch, and the stainless steel band has a tri-fold clasp.

The watch is powered by Omega's 4564 quartz movement.  By now you all will know my feelings of quarts movements are not high.  But, at the same time, I am not opposed to them.  My Shinola has one, and I am pleasantly happy with that watch.  Don't let my bias sway you from this watch, it is a fine watch from a great watchmaker.  You will get quality.

You should be able to find this watch for around 1800 dollars.  I think its a great buy for that price.  The name alone is really worth that.

The Speedmaster Moon watch was inspired by the watch worn by Wally Shirra in 1962, as he orbited the Earth on the Sigma 7 mission.  It is a numbered edition watch, a collection piece and will only be available while supplies last.

 This watch has made my lists before.  It was also on the 5 best men's watches for under 5000 dollars.  I have a funny feeling you may see it on the best men's chronograph watches under...part 2, as well.  It is a wonderful watch.

The 39.7mm stainless steel case has a crown at the 3 o'clock position and chronograph buttons at the 2 and 4 o'clock positions.  The case also has a black, tachymetric scale bezel.  The model also has a varnished black dial with a small seconds dial and a 30 minute recorder along with a 12 hour recorder.  The lens is a sapphire crystel and the brown leather band has a buckle style clasp.

I am a big fan of this watch, it has such a timeless look to it.  It is not over large, but big enough to allow the wearer to read it without dificulty, and the chronograph is a nice feature.  The movement is a manual winding Omega 1861 with 48 hour power reserve.  The movement is renouned for its rubustness.  I have met people that have this same basic movement in 50 year old watches and they still run like they were new.  This watch is quality personified, and if someone were looking for an heirloom, this watch, without a doubt, could fit that bill.

Generally, I find this watch selling for around 3500 dollars.  I think you are getting a superior product at that price, and would not hesitate to buy one when my finances present me with that option.

The Best Men's Omega Watch for Under 10,000

I could not put a list of best Omega watches together, without including a bond watch, right?

Well, this is not the exact bond watch, but he wore a Planet Ocean watch.  And Generally, over the last 25 years of Bond, they have been the Blue Planet Oceans.  But, Omega technically makes limited edition Bond watches.  But, that one was not available at the time of this blog post, so I could not, in good conscience, use that one.  This is the general public version, I guess I would call it.

The Planet Ocean Case is 43.5mm and made from titanium.  The crown is located at the standard 3 o'clock position, and there is an additional button at the 10 o'clock position which is a helium release valve, this if for pressure release on long duration deep dives.  This is a true professional dive watch, designed for 600M depth.  The watch has sapphire lenses on both the front and the back, and is ringed on the front by a rotating dive bezel.  The blue face has Arabic numerals at the quarter hours, and dashes representing the remaining hours marks.  It has a date window at the 3 o'clock position and has hour, minute, second and 24 hour hands.  The 3 link band is also titanium and has a tri fold clasp.

The movement in this time piece is an Omega 8605 calibre, self winding model with a 60 hour power reserve.

This is a fine watch, one of the nicest I have looked at here on The Best Men's Watches for Under.  If I could, it is another I would snatch up in a second.  I can usually find it for right around 5800 dollars, and I look at it as an excellent buy at that price, and well under the 10,000 price point.

Well, Here we go,  I am stepping into uncharted ground for me.  Here at The Best Men's Watches for Under... I have looked at watches that fall under many price points, but I have yet to jump to the 20,000 dollar price range.  In my average Joe brain, I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea of what value I would expect for a 20,000 dollar watch.  But I could not resist myself, I had a need to step into the realm of high end wrist ware.

The Omega DeVille Hour Vision Co-Axial grabbed my eye when I was scouring the Omega website for other watches on this list.  I am not always fond of the rose gold watches, but this watch drew me back to it repeatedly.  The watch has a 41mm rose gold case with the matching rose gold crown at the 3 o'clock position.  It has sapphire lenses, both on the front and back of the watch.  The dial face itself is brown with a grooved, rhodium plated hour track, and rose gold hour markers, with Arabic numerals in 5 minute intervals around the dial.  There is a date window located at the 3 o'clock position and the hour, minute, and second hands are also rose gold.  The watch is banded in leather, with the Omega clasp.

The watch is powered by the Omega Co-Axial calibre 8501, self winding movement with a 60 hour power reserve.  The movement has 39 Jewels.  Omega is known for accuracy and their movements are impressive.

I find this watch running at about 15,000 dollars.  It is a beautiful time piece, and if you are in the market for a 20,000 dollar watch, I would suggest you look at the DeVille line.  They have several, and some are more expensive, while others will fall under 10,000.

We have talked about Omega on past posts.  But in case you missed that...

The Swiss watchmaker, Omega, has been in business since 1903.  And they are the rockstars of the watchmaking industry.  They have been official time keepers for countless events, including the Olympics since 1932.  And both the Royal flying corp, and the American Air force used Omega as their official time keepers.  It was an Omega that was the first watch on the moon. And, of course, It was an Omega that has graced the wrist of James Bond, ever since 1995.  Needless to say, they have made quite a name for themselves.  And it is not all hype.  Omega watches are one of the best watch companies in the world.  And this Speedmaster is a perfect example of what they can do.

The Omega Speedmaster is a nice looking watch, inspired by the first watch in space, it has a vintage feel to it.  With it's nearly 40mm stainless steel case, is fairly big, without feeling overly large.  The stainless steel back is embossed with the classic Omega seahorse.  The Speedmaster has its crown at the classic 3 o'clock position, along with the chronograph buttons at the 2 o'clock position and 4 o'clock position.  The black face has dashes to denote the hour and minute marking, and all the hands on the watch are silver.  The 22.9mm Band is made from brown leather and has a buckle style clasp.

The Omega Speedmaster is not going to overwhelm you with Bond-like features.  But it is a chronograph, and not just a plain'ol quartz chronograph, but a self winding mechanical chronograph.  The watch also includes a Tachymeter bezel and your standard HH, MM, and second capabilities.  It also has a sapphire, scratch resistant lens, with anti-reflective treatment.

The movement for the Omega Speedmaster is something special.  It is the manual winding Omega 1861 chronograph movement with Rhodium-plated finish.  The movement has a power reserve of 48 hours and 18 jewels.  It runs at 21,600 bph.  It has counters for 60 seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hours.

The Omega Speedmaster is a fantastic watch, playing on history ti bring an excellent timepiece.  the fact that the same movement has been used since the moon landing that added a layer of fame to the company.  I like this watch a lot.  The company has an excellent story and nobody would miss seeing the famous Omega on your wrist.  And at a 3500 dollar price point, it is an excellent buy on this list of best men's watches under...

El Primero Chronograph

Zenith is a luxury Swiss watchmaker that has been making watches in Switzerland since 1865.  The Zenith watch company has a long an distinguished history, and they are well known for making quality, precision timepieces.  In fact, the El Primero Calibre was released in 1969 and is still in production today, it was one of the first automatic chronograph watches put into production.

The Zenith El Primero Chronograph is an awful lot like the Omega Speedmaster.  The large 42mm stainless steel case offers the crown at the traditional 3 o'clock position and two auxiliary chronograph buttons located at the 2 and 4 o'clock positions and the stainless steel screw on back also has a see through sapphire lens.  The dial has a black finish with dashes representing numerical hour and minute positions.  And the Rhodium finished hands have a nicely polished finish.  The black alligator leather band has a folding clasp.

The Zenith El Primero Chronograph is a full featured watch.  With an automatic movement chronograph, and a tachymeter bezel, the watch is competitive with the Omega, but on top of that, it adds a date window at the 6 o'clock position.  HH, MM, and second capabilities are also present on this watch.  The hands and dial have been coated in Super Luminova as well for dark.

The Zenith El Primero 400B automatic movement has 31 jewels and a 50 hour reserve.  The movements functions at a high 36,000 vbh speed,

The Zenith watch is a wonderful watch.  The Zenith name is old in the watchmaking industry and the quality will be top notch.  Coming in at just a hair under 5000 dollars, it will not leave much left of your budget, but you will be getting a quality time piece.

I have been waiting for this moment since I started this blog.  The Company of companies, when it comes to watches is finally making an appearance on the best men's watches under list.

Rolex was founded in London, England, in 1905 under the name, Wilsdorf and Davis.  The trademarked the name Rolex, in 1909, and set up offices in Switzerland.  Then, quickly moved their headquarters to Switzerland in 1919.  The company has made some of the best watches in the world for over 100 years, and the idea of being able to own one for under 5000 dollars is fairly exciting to me.

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual has a classic Rolex Case.  The 34mm stainless steel case is seamlessly melded into the bands' mounting pin and has a crown located at the standard 3 o'clock position, and a stainless steel screw down case back.  The silver dial has the crown at the 12 o'clock position and hour markers made from 18ct. gold, and the stainless steel, 3-link bracelet is fitted with an Oysterclasp for securing.

The Rolex Oyster 34 is not going to wow you with features either.  The fact that you are able to clasp an honest to goodness Rolex to your wrist is feature in itself.  The HH, MM, SS are of course there, and it is a self winding number, along with gold inlay hour markers, this watch screams class, in a subdued voice, of course.

The movement for the Oyster is a 3130 perpetual self winding mechanical movement.  It is considered extremely reliable, and extremely accurate.  It runs at 28,800 bph and has 31 jewels.

The Rolex is an excellent buy, ranging in price from around 4000 to about 4500, depending on your source. it gives you an icon to strap to your wrist every day.  And a tough watch on top of that.  The 3130 movement is know for durability and accuracy.  You can rest assured you made a quality purchase with this watch.

Longines

Longines watches was found in 1832, in Saint-Imier, Switzerland.  And are still located there.  Longines is now owned by Swatch Corp, but the winged hourglass logo is the oldest registered watch logo.

Longines is known for its aviator watches.  Charles Lindbergh was an acquaintance with a previous director and even designed a watch for the company that is still in production.

Longines provided timers in the first modern Olympics in 1896, and even went to the north pole with Luigi Amedeo, and arctic explorer.

The Longines Master Collection is classy.  What else to say about it.  The 38.5mm, 18ct pink gold case is sleek and stylish.  Its crown is located at the 3 o'clock position and the screw on, see through back has a sapphire crystal.  The silver face has hour markers that are Wesselton VS diamonds for a total of 0.55 ct, and slim, pink gold hands round out the looks.  The brown alligator strap has a striple safety folding clasp with a push piece opening mechanism.

The Longines master colletion watch listed here is nothing more than a nice dress watch.  It has no special functions, it tells the time in HH, MM, and seconds and also gives you the date in a window located at the 6 o'clock positions.  It's case is constructed of 18 ct pink gold and the diamond hour markers are the only things I would consider to be special features of this watch.

The movement is a Longines L619/L888 self winding movement, with a power reserve of 42 hourrs and running at 28,8000 bph, and it has 21 Jewels, it is a modified ETA 2892-A2, and is a well built movement

For 3800 to 4500 dollars, the Longines gives you a very attractive and functional dress watch.  It will surely catch the eye with the gold and diamonds, and the Longines name gives you a long lived watch maker.  Definitely a great buy in the 5 best mens watches for under 5000 dollars list.

Bell & Ross

Bell & Ross is not an old brand name, but definitely is a unique watch maker.

Bell & Ross was founded in 1992 headquartered in Paris France.  They were originally produced by the German watchmaker, Sinn, but, in 2002, the partnership ended and Bell & Ross went their own way.

Today they make some truly unique watches.  The square cased watches with highly accurate swiss movements and some amazing dive watches that are resistant up to 1000M.


The Bell & Ross Heritage Ceramic watch is unique, not only in this list, but in just about any lists.  The 42mm case us square, flat black and made of PVD, and with a crown located at the 3 o'clock position.  It also has chronograph function buttons located at the 2 and 4 o'clock positions.  The flat black dial face is accented with hour markers and minute indexes in a sand color, to give it an antiquated look.  The black hands are also tipped in the same sand color.  The brown calfskin band comes with a buckle style clasp, and the watch comes with an additional canvas band, and tools required to change the bands.


The Bell and Ross heritage ceramic has some features that make this unique watch a very useful watch to own.  HH, MM, and second, along with chronograph features make this watch not only appealing to look at but functional as well.

The Bell & Ross BR-CAL.301 movement is a modified ETA 2894-2 movement.  withh 37 Jewels and a 42 hour power reserve, this chronograph movement runs at a 28,800 bph frequency, and gives the hour, minute and small second as well as date.

The Bell & Ross will not fit every ones taste.  It is for the individual who wants to sport something different and unique on their wrist, while still showing a sense of class.  the watch is well built and will serve in most environments.  I personally enjoy the looks of the Bell & Ross watches, which is something of a surprise to me, considering I tend to lean more toward classic looks.

I have seen this watch sell for as low as 3000 dollars, but for as much as 4200, so watch the prices when shopping for one. It seems to vary wildly.
